If you are looking for a fantastic family holiday that will leave you with great memories and wanting more, Kalkan is the place to go. The restaurants' are plentiful and are at such a high standard and reasonably priced! We were very pleasantly surprised. The local beaches, Thursday market, boat trips and beach clubs with their water sports made great family days out. Our evenings were spent having a wonderful meal followed by a walk around the beautiful resort looking in the many shops and stopping for a drink along the way. It was such a superb holiday, we are going back again in 2010 what more can I say!
Useful Tips:
Kalkan has so many fantastic restaurants, too many to visit during a two week stay, some of our favorites were Baharat, I had the best steak here and the staff were so nice we went back. Gironda is just superb. The staff at Kosk were such good fun and the food was very reasonably priced for such a high standard. The fajitas at the Nar Bar and Restaurant are a must and again the staff were great, this was another restaurant we went back to and finally Doy Doy is well worth a visit. Something to be aware of. Kalkan is very hilly, some are very steep, so would not recommend if you have mobility problems or if you struggle with hills.

Hisaronu in Fethiye is the most excellent destination. My son and I have been for the last three years. Everyone you meet has been before. Most hotels are just outside the town, so although the town can be bustly on an evening, the area around the hotels are quiet. The shopping is excellent, clothes, jewellry, shoes, handbags. The restaurants are all delicious, trust me, we have tried most. The boat trip is a fave with us we always go, at least once on our holiday. Other trips sound really good. The beach is only 10 minutes away and a local dolmus takes you for a small fee (about 30p) - these are running all day long. At the Olu Deniz beach there are restaurants, cafes, shops - paragliding, parashooting and the most beautiful scenery. I have travelled all over and I don't care if i never visit anywhere else again, i could live in Hisaronu !!!
Useful Tips:
the full day boat trips are excellent, visit 12 islands have lunch and free drinks all inclusive for £10. Shopping on a night time when it is slightly cooler is brilliant. Lovely restaurants. Great bars. Every age group will find something

Hisaronu nightlife is exceptional for such a small resort. Very welcoming to families. Plenty of shops & restaurants offering a wide variety of cuisines. This area of Turkey is amazing & has enough to keep you busy for a fortnight, but quiet enough for a relaxing break.
Useful Tips:
Olu Deniz beach - paradise in Turkey! Dalyan mud baths trip - Excellent Fethiye market

Fethiye is a lovely place for anyone of any age. There are little side streets with local bars and restaurants which ooze local tradition and charm and are reasonably priced. There are many local souvenir shops which sell many things from the speciality of Turkish delight to the more extravagant hand made rugs. It is recommended that you haggle on the price of things to get the best bargain possible and almost expected. There is a magnificent harbour where you can catch many boat trips at very reasonable prices but again, don't forget to haggle; it really does work. There are water taxi's from Fethiye which go across to another lovely town called Calis Beach. This is another wonderful town with a bars and restaurants dotted along the beach and a lovely promenade which makes for a pleasurable evening. The Turkish people are wonderful, they cannot do enough for you and they love children. The only negative is a shingle beach.
Useful Tips:
Picking up a bargain on the local markets.

Fethiye is an 'all round' destination suitable for everyone;single or with families, young and old! It's a traditional Turkish town with a glorious waterfront - gulets & restaurants. There is als o a large weekly market. The town has an interesting bazaar area too. It is also close to beaches at Calis & Olu Deniz. There are also 'dive centres' which appeal to many. Above the town are Lycian tombs cut into the hillside, which are accessible on foot. They are not only historic, but from this area there is a superb view of the coastline around the area. The people are friendly; the climate is good. It is an acceptable transfer time from Dalaman Airport (about an hour and a quarter) which also is an interesting drive. Whilst in Fethiye there is a good dolmus (mini bus) service, therefore no need to get car hire. - you can even get to Calis Beach by water taxi. What more could anyone want?
Useful Tips:
don't miss the weekly market - take at least one boat trip from the waterfront (12 Islands and/or Gocek)- use a dolmus - shop in the evenings in the bazaar - go to the Lycian tombs

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Ova Resort hotel in Ovacik (a small town between Fethiye and Hisaronu), this was by far the best holiday I have ever had. There was so many excursions and things to do, all reasonably priced (comare prices with different excursion companys in Hisaronu to get the best price) an example was the Oludeniz boat trip. This lasted for 10:15am - 5.30pm, stopped at various places the scenery was stunning, nice lunch and lots of fun on board the boat, (brilliant waterslide on board, jumping of the boat etc). This cost us £5 each. Also the Turkish people were so friendly, food delicious, I could go on and on but definately recomend it to people to go see for themselves.
Useful Tips:
Haggle for prices and book all your excursions in Hisaronu when you get there. We made the mistake of paying for the paragliding online (£75 each) only to find you could get it for £60 each or cheaper, 1 couple got it for £40. Look around for the best deal (there are loads of shops selling excursions in Hisaronu). The more excursions you book at 1 time the more you can knock them down in price.

This holiday was my 3rd to turkey in 10 years and I went with my GF, the hotel is now closed - my father goes to the location often and has been turned into a old peoples home! so i cant recommend it. as a resort its pretty good and near to fethiye, however its now grown lots since I last went 6 years ago. What I like about turkey and fethiye is that you can jump on a boat and be in a lovely loaction in tens of minutes and it doesnt feel like a typical EU tourist destination with all the Bling that say Spain is - a good thing IMO and very good value for money. Efes beer is nice :)
Useful Tips:
Avoid big company boat trips that are rammed and multi-language trips. Ask about - word of mouth is key. Also the Clockhouse restaurant is nice.

What a fantastic place to spend a holiday - beautiful beaches at nearby Olu Deniz; fabulous for shopping in Fethiye; relaxing bars and restaurants at superb prices in nearby Calis; good choice of relaxing boat trips; and the bluest of seas all around. What more can you want from a holiday? Oh yes, fabulous blue skies with the most beautiful scenery in all areas. Add to that the most gorgeous sunsets in the world, and you have your perfect holiday destination. Don't take my word for it - go and see for yourself. You wont be disappointed!
Useful Tips:
Very hot in mid summer, so maybe not suitable for very young children. However, perfect in May and September. Lovely areas for walking and plenty of history.
