I loved it here, everything I expected from a tropical beach holiday.. white sands, plenty of beach sunloungers (you do have to pay), waves for the kids to play in, (they spent hours just jumping and body surfing them) and little beach front snack bars that sell sandwiches, ice creams and beer (of course!) Loved the fresh pineapple too.
Food was lovely, we stuck to mainly Western food as the kids didn't like the spicy Thai stuff.. I did try a few noodle or curry's and it wasn't too hot.
We just wanted to laze around in the sun most of the time but there were lots of trips to choose from. We liked the sea turtles on a beach near the airport (name escapes me), the Fantasea theme park place and I liked shopping around Patpong market.
It's a long flight but worth it for the weather and the beaches..
Useful Tips:
I recommend getting umbrellas with your sun beds, the sun gets so hot that you can hardly go out in it midday.. and the sand was baking hot, so I made sure the kids wore their crocs.
Use mozzie spray at night and keep your windows shut at much as possible.
Watch out for tuk-tuk drivers, they will rip you off unless you haggle down the price.. start at half the amount and be prepared to walk away - they often magically cut the original amount!!
You will be asked if you want a suit made at every tailor store, just ignore them and walk past unless you actually want one. We met some other English people who said they are great value. Everyone seemed very friendly and seemed to understand basic English.
Oh, my favourite thing was the Thai massages, felt really pampered and it didn't cost that much I preferred the ones on the beach to the back streets, but they had queues sometimes!
