History
Spain's popularity to foreigners is something it should be used to by now, with the country having undergone numerous invasions and occupations throughout its history. The Iberians settled first, before Celtic invasions in the north and Bronze Age settlers in the south interrupted their reign. Spain fell like the rest of Europe to Roman domination, but after the fall of the Empire endured occupation by North African Muslims, sparking fierce rivalry with Christian Crusaders from the north.
More recently, Spain experienced a turbulent civil war between 1936 and 1939, the up shot of which was General Franco's infamous fascist regime, ending with his death in 1975. Spain has enjoyed stable democracy ever since.
