The accomodation made this a great destination and worth the hours drive from Malaga airport. The appartment exceeded our expectations; top of the range kitchen and every accessory you would ever need. The well kept pools, complete with a life guard provided hours of fun for our two children, aged 9 & 6. Several big supermarkets makes self catering easy. Manilva itself is a lovely traditional town and we enjoyed the Virgin del Carmen celebrations. There is a good choice of restaurants and the children were well catered for, frequently eating smaller portions from the adult menu. Gibralter is a 30 minute drive, so easy access to great duty free shopping. Marbella an easy 20 minute drive and the children enjoyed seeing top range sports cars and boats, while the adults enjoyed people watching!! Our only critism would be the beach, course sand and the sea is cold dure to its proximity to the Atlantic.
Useful Tips:
Book a restaurant table if you want to dine out during a festival. Apparently the sea heats up in August. Free Parking available in Manilva so take a cab back after a nightout. The quickest route from Malaga Airport is the toll road, expect to pay about 20 Euro

This is a great place to visit, average temperature beginning to mid September, approx, 30 degrees. Perfect, when the scottish summer can be, shall we say, a bit hitty missy. There were a variety of holidaymakers ranging from stag/hen parties to families and old and young friends. I found it a relaxing place, no problem with bags being snatched, although there were a few notices warning people to keep an eye on their handbags at restaurants. The sandy beach went on for miles, it was gorgeous, and a good way to keep fit at a leisurely stroll,if you fancied doing something a bit more strenuous than getting up of the comfortable sunbed (4 euro per day) to walk into the sea (ha-ha). It is mainly a flat landscape (although there are a few hills on streets behind the seafront) and has a good train/bus service to help you see other parts of the Costa del Sol nearby if you are on a budget. My pal and I had a lovely holiday here and met some good friends, especially at the Tavern.
Useful Tips:
The beach, there is plenty of good food at the restaurants, the Tavern Karaoke bar (run by Mike & Steve)(a great place to meet new friends and enjoy or have a laugh at their singing, the free "Blanket Trip" which takes you to "The Lakes", Andalucian horse show (brilliant), mosquitoes (I was bitten twice on the ankle), the local market (where bargains can be purchased), and to expect people approaching them to purchase handbags/watches/sunglasses/clothes.

A Lovely Break in Nerja

Comments:
We went as an extended family group to Nerja and all loved it. Grand parents spent time relaxing by the pool and beach and enjoyed promenading on the Balcon. The young adults in the group found plenty of entertainment in the many bars and clubs and we always felt they were safe and happy. This resort is a far cry from the 'drunken Brits abroad' type that is often reported in the media. The forty-somethings were entertained exploring the rambling shopping streets and cafes and visiting the near by caves and local beaches. We found a wide variety of places to eat and drink without having to venture far. Nerja was charming and not over developed or over run by holiday makers. It is worth noting that younger children may find the beaches disappointing. The ones we visited consisted of small sharp pebbles that were sore to walk on and at times the sea was rough enough to take the legs from an adult.
Useful Tips:
Transfers from the airport were expensive and took about an hour. In hind-sight it would have been as cheap to hire a car for a week.

Comments:
The area of Nerja especially the older part is lovely. Nice beaches and fantastic Tapas bars. Look for the Tapas guide on the internet it is a valuable guide to take with you as it maps out all of the tapas bars which give you free tapas with each drink that you order, free if you sit at the bar. Some of these bars specialise in fresh seafood and cook them for you to order, so you can have a small beer and freshly cooked clams etc with a wedge of lemon for approx 1 euro 30 or 1 euro 50. lets just say you did not have to buy a meal in the evening as you filled up on these free tapas fantastic!
Useful Tips:
Go up to Frigliana one of the white villages up in the hills. You can get the bus up to it. Also the weekly market is a must, lots of lovely sun dresses to buy and pottery.
