Alicante's white sands are abutted by a beautiful harbour, and it's particularly pleasant to take an afternoon stroll here watching the yachts and ships set off into the blue horizon. At sunset, if you've got itchy feet, do not miss the view from the city's cliff-top castle, Castillo de Santa Barbara, commanding jaw-dropping vistas of the coastline and the city by the dark red sky.

The most vibrant fiestas here are in the summer, from the rollicking frivolity of the Bonfires of St John on 24th June, to August's more reverent Misteri d'Elx, an open air play to celebrate the Assumption. Whenever you come on your Alicante holidays, there's a very good chance that something will be commemorated!
