Comments:
This is a wonderful winter holiday destination, a very stylish city, packed with tourist sights and wonderfully cheap food. We visited in January and the weather was sunny, in the high 70s/early 80s. Staying at the Victoria and Albert Waterfront means you are very central, and within walking distance of shopping, entertainment and dining options. Have a cocktail at the Cape Grace, one of the worlds leading hotels for only £4, an equivalent one in London would set you back £18. There are many beaches in Cape Town, but the water is cold (its the Atlantic). We liked Camps Bay, miles of sand, with lots of trendy cafes behind.
Useful Tips:
A visit up Table Mountain is a must, but go at the first opportunity, it is sometimes closed due to low visibility. There are boat tours to Nelson Mandela's Robben Island from the Waterfront, but it is advisable to book at least 2 weeks ahead via the internet, otherwise you will be disappointed if it is a sellout when you get there. Plenty of opportunities for wildlife watching - whales in the autumn, penguins at Boulders Beach about 1.5 hours from Cape Town, baboons at Cape Point 2 hours from Cape Town. You can also stroke a cheetah in the Cheetah sanctuary at the Spier winery in Paarl, just 40 minutes drive from Cape Town.

Magnificent, glorious and beautiful comes to mind when thinking of Cape Town. Truly a heavenly haven, Cape Town is the perfect summer holiday spot, wonderfully created for the nature & wildlife explorer, the finest diner, adrenalin-junky and those in need of serious R&R. It offers a brilliant balance of urban and rural life, with countless opportunities to have fun, unwind in style and tour - all at once. My husband and I are avid adventurers and apart from having seen the popular tourist attractions, such as Table Mountain, Robben Island and many of Cape Town's exquisite beaches - we've also ventured along the Garden Route, making a splash with shark cage diving, bunjee jumping off of the world's highest commercial bridge, canoeing, abseiling, quad biking in the winelands, hiking, zip-lining, even riding an ostrich! Cape Town is the perfect destination to experience an inspiring world of cultures, delicious taste sensations & to grasp the fact that one has another home on earth!
Useful Tips:
There are too many to mention! -Strawberry picking at Polka draai farm in Stellenbosch. -Spier restaurant - definitely a sensational african encounter with succulent tastes, friendly faces, and great entertainment. -V&A Waterfront - for shopping, the Aquarium & you can catch a boat ride after eating their famous 'fish & slap chips'! -The Planetarium & SA Museum in central Cape Town makes for an interesting visit - a very pictureque surrounding indeed! -Beaches, beaches, beaches. What more can I say. Boulders beach stands out for me as there are wobbling little penguins marching all over. Another one I enjoyed is Strand beach, as it has warm waters as opposed to Clifton & Camps Bay's icey waves. -A definite must eat is a 'Gatsby'. A common Cape Town fast food - spicey & tasty and delicious. -The only negative I can give Cape Town is the vagrants, which one must be a wary of. Then again one must always be aware of one's surroundings, no matter what the destination. Enjoy!
