The Maltese islands are often referred to as the islands of sunshine because the weather and climate have a typically Mediterranean flavour. A family friendly destination, Malta holidays have something for everybody, no matter what age you are and what you're interested in.

Boasting over 6,000 years of civilisation, history oozes from its every pore and if you're fascinated by culture and heritage, the island is scattered with amazing archaeological artefacts and historical sites. Holidays to Malta are also a walker's paradise with plenty of charming towns and villages to explore alongside its beautiful coastline with its shimmering blue seas - ideal for divers.

When it comes to sun tans, Malta has some of the Mediterranean's finest beaches to laze away those hot and sunny days. What better way to relax after a day on the beach than a tranquil evening in one of the many elegant restaurants in Malta or, if you're feeling up to it, you can party late into the night.

With an abundance of low cost flights operating between the UK and Malta and a flight time of less than 3 hours from London, Malta holidays are perfect place to enjoy a week or fortnight's break as well as becoming a more popular destination for a mini-break.

Weather

Malta's temperatures remain very stable with hot, dry summers, warm and sometimes wet autumns and a relatively short, cool winter. Its annual average temperature throughout the year is a warm 18° Celsius, and even in winter, it rarely falls below 10° Celsius. At the height of the summer when Malta holidays are most popular, however, you can expect temperatures to reach 30° Celsius or more- perfect for working up a healthy tan!

Attractions

No holiday to Malta would be complete without a visit to its capital, Valletta. Here, you'll find magnificent cathedrals, ancient fortifications, museums, historic churches and some of the finest restaurants on the island as well as plenty of shopping. It's also well worth a ferry or catamaran trip to go and visit its neighbouring islands of Gozo and Comino and you can even take in several Italian ports and visit the island of Sicily on a day trip.

Younger members of the family can go wild at 'Splash and Fun'. With its water slides and dinosaur park, this is a great day out for all the family on holidays to Malta. And, for the experience of a lifetime, why not swim with the dolphins at the Mediterraneo Marine Park? As well as the dolphin show, you can also take in the hilarious sea lion and parrot shows too as well as being able to observe many other species of animals within the park.

Nightlife

When the sun goes down, holidays to Malta cater for all kinds of nightlife. As well as many exquisite restaurants where you may care to try one of a host of Sicilian influenced dishes or even good old fashioned British bangers and mash if you prefer, whilst enjoying traditional Maltese folk music.

For the younger set however, head to Paceville with its piano bars, casino and numerous nightclubs such as Footloose, Havana and the mighty Axis club which often feature some of Europe's top DJs. It's a good thing that Malta's nightlife kicks off a lot earlier than many other Mediterranean destinations with all its clubs pumping out hardcore music from as early as 10.30pm.

If that all sounds a bit too lively, picturesque St Julians, which is still home to many Maltese fisherman, is peppered with bougainvillea-lined restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy a pleasant evening meal and then sip cocktails whilst listening to relaxing live entertainment.
