Weather
Agia Pelagia enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate, with long, hot summers - perfect for summer Crete holidays. This is the best time to enjoy a holiday here if you want sun, sea and sand; you can work on your tan right into October, and the sea is warm enough for swimming from April to November. Sheltered in a bay, Agia Pelagia is protected from the winds that sometimes hit other parts of Crete, so when you're on the beach all you will feel is a pleasant breeze.
Spring is beautiful with bursts of wild flowers and more peaceful atmosphere, and the autumn is nice when it starts to cool down. Only in the winter does the weather turn grey and sometimes wet.

Nightlife
A string of restaurants threads its way along Agia Pelagia's bayside indulging in the local food and wine is a great way to spend an evening after a day on the beach. As the heat cools off you can visit the tavernas such as the Caldera and enjoy the stylish seafood menu while admiring the views out to sea.
There are no big clubs here, but there is a choice of waterfront bars and cafes offering sophisticated nightlife that never detracts from Agia Pelagia's classy atmosphere. For a night on the tiles hit Chania.
Landscape
Agia Pelagia is situated in a beautiful location, the village and resort are nestled under cliffs and rolling hills that give way to the brilliant blue of the bay. The sandy beach has splendid views out to sea, and the water is perfect for swimming. Here you can enjoy waterskiing and diving, or for a more peaceful time you can wander to the more tranquil coves that neighbour the resort.
History
Crete has a rich history, with successive invaders and occupiers, and as the home of the Minoan civilisation is credited as the birthplace of European culture. Several important historical sites are close to Agia Pelagia: the Minoan ruins at Knossos are only 25km away, a must see for visitors with an interest in history; it's a short drive to Fodele which is famous as the birthplace of the painter El Greco; and on the road to Heraklion you can find the medieval fortress of Paleokastro.
Culture
Easter is the biggest festival in the Cretan calendar, and Agia Pelagia celebrates along with the rest of the island. Another cultural highlight is the Heraklion Festival, which takes place in July and August, and features drama, film, traditional music and jazz, and is easily reached from the resort.
As a coastal resort Agia Pelagia has delicious seafood on offer, such as the speciality Kakavia, a fish soup with lemon, onions and herbs. Vegetarians are also very well catered for with a range of mezedhes to delight in.
