Relaxation
Comments:
There were 3 of us looking for some winter sun at this time of year, somewhere we could just relax for a week, did a search and came up with a cheap flight for the gambia,so,we thought why not, didn't know quite what to expect after reading reviews about bumsters etc, anyway,we loved it and are going back again in 2 weeks time as we made some really good friends never asked us for anything, the place is really poor, took some things for a school,so shocked at the state but they were so happy, breaks yyour heart, bumsters just have to be firm with, you get used to it,thoroughly recommend the gambia.
Useful Tips:
Be careful about the bumsters,or people that hang on to you,we went for a loaf of bread and ended up with about 10 gambian men and no bread as we went back to apartment to escape, just be polite but firm, prices were a shock as everyone had said was very cheap for drinks etc but to be honest its about same as a good bar in uk,supermarkets sell everything you need, people are lovely and very friendly, very hot even though very windy, just be careful not to burn even in the shade as i did.

Comments:
The Gambia is a place to experience there culture, get a tour guide and you will see more and be well looked after, felt safe, the market place is a place to visit and the local fishing villages as well as the ecussions for local history, 4*star or 5*Hotels are the best choice to stay in with plenty to do,
Useful Tips:
When going out on your own or as a group get a local guide they are normally outside the Hotel, they will advise you on places to go they do not cost alot and they are so friendly, you will experience the true gambia life style.they will advise you what to look out for, also the holiday rep will tell you off any anything that you need to know. The Country is 3rd world and can be a culture shock, visiting local schools take pencils as a gift, yes there is some wild life, Recomended before you travel yellow fever jab and get all you jabs up to date, maliria ect avoid there rainning season and ensure you have good walking shoes and take some imodium as yes you may get a upset stomach.

Comments:
Not a place you immediately think of... but TRY IT. It's probably the best holiday we ever had. The people there are amazing and so friendly, the food is good and the weather even better. Given the alternative winter sun spots I can't think of any reason not to go to Gambia.
Useful Tips:
Go and feed the monkeys and go and stroke the crockoliles. Some of the people, like in any resort, are out to make a quick buck for themselves so beware of that. Also try fishing and get a local restaurant to cook it up for you.

Comments:
Our first time out of Europe, first time in Africa, really enjoyable holiday. Somewhere different, different people, atmosphere, foods, a different holiday. The difference between the locals and the tourists was very obvious, and I wouldn't have liked to be a single woman travelling there as I would have found it quite intimidating, but once you understood them and there ways we became a lot more relaxed and the holiday was very enjoyable as a result. We were advised by our reps to stick with the tourist cabs and trips, but we went on the local buses, used local cabs and went on local boat trips and felt safe and happy, and probably had more fun then some of the other tourists!!
Useful Tips:
The monkeys, the crocodiles, the beautiful beaches, and the very (sometimes overly) friendly locals. And always barter!
