Marrakech City Breaks

Marrakech is mysterious, lively, exciting, chaotic, magnificent and a definite must visit. When you arrive in this incredible Moroccan city head for the huge square of Jemaa-el-Fna, the Place of the Dead, which is an unusual name for a square which sells mostly food! The square is busy all day, but in the evenings, it is packed with food stalls, snake charmers, fakirs, street performers and every kind of wildness you have ever imagined.

If you don't want to have your supper off a cart, the square is lined with excellent restaurants and cafes. The Sa'adian Tombs are a short walk from Jemaa-el-Fna and is the site of magnificent mausoleums. One of the most amazing sights in the city is the Majorelle Garden and Museum of Islamic Art, which surprisingly is owned by fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, and painted in his trademark primary colours.

Also visit the Koutoubia Mosque, the El Badi Palace and the maze-like souks where you can buy things you'll never get at Tesco, like potions to ward off evil. Morocco has a relaxed attitude, thus you can play at the Mamounia Casino in the Hotel La Mamounia, and drink, albeit discreetly, at many local bars.
