Tenerife is the largest and highest of the Canary Islands, a paradise formed from ancient volcanoes with Spain's tallest mountain, Pico del Teide, at its centre, and the blue seas of the Atlantic lapping its beautiful coastline. The island has such a diversity of places to see and things to do that there is something for everyone on Tenerife holidays, from nature spotting and hiking, to nightclubbing and watersports. Of course one of the best ways to enjoy your holiday in Tenerife is to relax on the beach and soak up the sun!

One of the most attractive aspects that draws people back on holidays to Tenerife is how varied the island is; the east coast is barren, while the northwest is richly verdant with dramatic cliffs. The south is home to the most popular holiday resorts such as Playa de las Americas and boasts spectacular beaches. The island's capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife is in the north and nearby is the elegant university city of Laguna. Tenerife is served by two airports: Tenerife Norte Airport, in the north, and Tenerife Sur Airport, east of Playa de las Americas in the south and destination for most international flights. On the Beach can arrange the best deal for your flights and hotel rooms, making your holiday in Tenerife blissfully simple.
WeatherTenerife has a beautiful climate with temperatures averaging 22° Celsius all-year round, so it's perfect for swimming and sunbathing at anytime. The south of the island is particularly hot and dry, with clear skies and desert-like conditions, and it is here that most people come to stay on holidays in Tenerife because this is where the best beaches are to be found.
The north of the Tenerife sees more cloud and rainfall due to northerly trade winds, but the coast along this part of the island also enjoys a constant, warm, subtropical climate. Up in the heights of the Teide massif, above the cloud layer, the temperatures vary greatly between night and day; in the winter the temperatures drop to freezing, snow falls and settles, leaving small lakes as it melts.
AttractionsTenerife boasts a wealth of attractions for people on cheap Tenerife holidays. Loro Parque is one of the most popular places for a day out on holiday in Tenerife with hundreds of parrots, an aquarium, sea lion and dolphin shows and the world's largest Penguinarium. The AquaPark near Playa de la Americas also has dolphin shows along with an amazing range of waters rides, pools, slides and sunbathing areas. Near to Los Cristianos is Tenerife Zoo, home to friendly monkeys, and Parque Las Aguilas, a jungle park with exotic animals, lagoons, waterfalls and birds of prey.
Fancy something a bit more exotic on your holidays to Tenerife? You can take a camel ride in the botanical gardens at Oasis de Valle. For an interactive and informative day out take the kids to Museu de la Naturaleza y e Hombre in Santa Cruz. The Castillo de San Miguel is an old fort in the town of Garachico with a collection of seashells from around the world, a pleasant restaurant, and battlements that offer great views out to sea. Don't forget that you can also polish up your golf on holidays to Tenerife with a choice of excellent courses in Costa Adeje and Golf del Sur.
NightlifeTenerife holidays are known for their vibrant nightlife with plenty of nightclubs and discos in the tourist hotspots. Playa de las Americas has the island's most exuberant nightlife; Veronica's is the best known strip with around a hundred bars and discos that keep the party going from dusk 'til dawn. Lineker's and Tramp's are two of the most popular clubs, while the Tropicana stages song and dance spectaculars.
Victoria, on Avenida de Colon in Puerto de la Cruz, has been one of the most popular discos for many years. KU in Santa Cruz also has a well-established reputation for great nights out.
For a more refined on your Tenerife holidays, relaxing evening the Auditorio de Tenerife is home to the respected Orchestra Sinfonica de Tenerife. Concerts run from October to May, and the auditorium also hosts opera and dance. So if you are looking for cheap holidays with a splash of culture, don't overlook a break in Tenerife!
LandscapePico del Teide, at 3718m, is the highest mountain in Spain and dominates Tenerife's landscape; on a clear day you can see all of the Canary Islands from the peak. The natural beauty of the island's interior is fantastic for lovers of wildlife, and there are endless opportunities for hiking, cycling and pony-trekking on your Tenerife hliday. The volcanic landscape that surrounds Teide includes diverse scenery with tropical gardens, misty forests, lush vegetation, dramatic mountainous slopes, peaceful villages, rocky headlands and, of course, marvellous beaches.
Los Cristianos is one of the most popular resorts, with a new man-made beach that is safe for swimmers, particularly children. A string of small beaches line the coast near Playa de las Americas with all sorts of watersports and attractive scenery, often drawing large crowds. The man-made beach at Playa de las Teresitas was created with golden yellow sand imported from the Sahara. Palm trees add to the tropical feel of the beach, and offer some shade from the glorious sunshine.
CultureTenerife has a lively calendar of festivals, mainly based around religious dates. On holidays to Tenerife you will probably have the opportunity to experience a fiesta whatever time of year you choose to visit. Although most events are religious in origin they all have a tendency to end with a frenetic party.
The pre-Lent carnival is the biggest festival on the island, with Latin American-style festivities filling the streets of Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Cruz. There are two weeks of flamboyant fancy dress parties, parades and firework displays culminating on Shrove Tuesday with a grand parade. Outrageous costumes, singing and dancing are the order of the day at a carnival that is very possibly the best outside of Rio de Janeiro.
Corpus Christi at the end of May or start of June is a religious celebration best seen at La Laguna or La Orotava where the streets are carpeted with colourful flowers and volcanic sand. After Corpus Christi the island enjoys a month of local festivals with food, wine and traditional dancing.
If you are taking your Tenerife holidays in August, Candelaria is the destination for a pilgrimage on Assumption Day, when a statue of Our Lady of Candelaria, patron saint of the Canaries, is paraded through the streets.
