The Islands

Fuerteventura Holidays
Although Fuerteventura is the second closest island to the Sahara in the Canarian archipelago, it is surprisingly the driest, receiving even less rainfall than bone-dry Lanzarote to the east. Gran Canaria Holidays
Gran Canaria has earned its title of "A Continent In Miniature" for its dazzling variety of climates, geographies and vegetation which differ so greatly from one another. An almost perfectly round island, the overall appearance and environment changes as you go around the perimeter. At the top of the island lies the main city of Las Palmas, a throbbing, thriving city that is now home to over 400,000 people, almost twice the number of just a couple of decades ago. History
The Canary Islands' original inhabitants hailed from neighbouring Africa, with cave paintings courtesy of this civilisation still preserved today. The luscious landscape of the islands was a perfect canvas for agricultural cultivation, allowing inhabitants to provide for themselves and live self-sufficiently. However, this capability for successful farming attracted foreign interest, and in the 15th century the islands were invaded by the Spanish, who used the islands for trading of both sugar cane and wine. More recently, the Canaries were subject to the regime and occupation of General Franco, and since his death have applied democracy across the islands. Today, the islands are ruled by the Canarian Coalition.
