Holidays in Calas de Mallorca are perfect in the summer for those wishing to top up their tans as temperatures reach 30° Celsius and beyond. Make sure you have your sun cream handy, as it will definitely be needed! Winter months tend to be a lot cooler and the weather can be more temperamental, with periodic rainfall and cloud. Attractions

For girls that love pearls, why not head to the nearby town of Manacor, home of the Majorca Pearl industry. You are able to watch the manufacturing of these pearls and then visit the gift shop afterwards for a bargain. The energetic types may want to consider hiring a bike to explore the fantastic countryside around Calas de Mallorca or for a relaxing view of the scenery, why not venture out on a glass bottom boat. Some of the trips stop off at Porto Cristo, giving you time to visit the Caves of Drach or some of the beaches at Cala Murada. The captain may also allow you to jump off the boat and take a 30 minute swim - just make sure you ask before you jump off!

If you are taking your children with you on your holidays to Calas de Mallorca then take a day out at the Exotic Parque Los Pajaros which is just outside the resort. You can watch parrots performing acrobatics and take a walk around the children's zoo. If they are still not tired, take them to the adventure playground which has trampolines, karts and even a giant bouncy castle.

Nightlife

There are a variety of bars and nightclubs as well as hotel-based entertainment available for those who want to go out to party. Those wanting to spend their evening in a relaxing restaurant will find the local dishes delightful, especially in Porto Cristo where there are several terrace restaurants which overlook the harbour.

The nightlife here is fairly quiet though, so those that want a loud night out, will not find this resort suitable. For a night of dancing it's best to head to Magalluf or Santa Ponsa where the parties start late and last right through the night!

Landscape

There are three glorious beaches to enjoy on holidays in Calas de Mallorca; Cala Antena, Cala Domingos Grans and Cala Domingos Petis. The beaches offer a selection of pedalos and watersports with windsurfing a popular activity here.

Summer months are the busiest when it comes to the beaches, especially Cala Domingos. You can visit all 3 beaches by taking the Calas Express road train through town. If you want to take in the spectacular coast around Calas de Mallorca, why not take the coastal path which cuts into the cliffs. Not only can you enjoy the glorious Majorcan sunshine on the way to the beach, but you'll also get a great look around this spectacularly beautiful area.

History

Like most of the resorts in Majorca, there is plenty of history in Calas de Mallorca reflected in the old buildings and farm houses scattered along the coast. However, as this is a purposely built resort for tourists, it's history is not as defined as other resorts in Majorca.

Culture

The sunday morning market at the nearby town of Felanitx will give you a big insight into the culture of this resort. This is a great place to pick up some local pottery, but remember you may need to haggle with the traders! There are usually no festivals held in Calas de Mallorca itself but if you plan a trip to Cala Millor in June you'll be able to savour some of the local festivities!
