Attracted by its sandy beaches, Spanish sun and buzzing nightlife, Majorca holidays are one of the most popular holiday destinations for British holiday-makers. Partly down to its short and snappy flight-time and guaranteed warmer weather throughout summer, but also because of its suitability to serve all ages, tastes and budgets – in fact you’re just as likely to bump into an A-lister as you are your next door neighbour.
The biggest of the Balearics, for all fact fans - Majorca (or Mallorca to the locals) derives from the Latin meaning ‘larger island’, however you can easily drive from east to west of the island in two hours. With popular holiday destinations in each of the island’s four corners, take your pick from idyllic villages such as the picturesque Puerto De Soller nestled along the coastline or holiday hotspots including the infamous Magaluf. Even the capital has something to offer. Steeped in rich history, Palma is one city worth a stop-off. A treasure-trove of tapas bars, boutiques and of course the notable Gothic Cathedral, even the most hardened culture vulture couldn’t fail to be wooed. So whether you want to kick-back, relax and soak up the sun with your other half, party all night with your best buds or take a trip round the island with your family, you won’t be disappointed.

Weather

Boasting a typical Mediterranean climate, Majorca Holidays on average are treated to sun 300 days a year, guaranteeing those brand new shades and shorts will get a good airing. As expected, the hottest months mirror those of the UK with the temperatures in July and August hovering around the 80 degree mark, but blue skies and sun remain de rigueur from June right through to early September – however, it is worth noting that if you plan to explore the mountainous regions, an extra layer or two to protect you from that cool sea breeze won’t go amiss. Between late September and November it’s not uncommon to see Spaniards sporting umbrellas either, and although the overall temperature will drop in winter, it tends to fall no lower than 9 degrees, even in January.

Attractions and Nightlife

Alongside the beaches, there’s plenty to hold your attention span when your on your Majorca Holidays. For child-friendly features, hop on a glass-bottom boat and take a trip around the island in style, make a date with Aqualand waterpark in Magaluf, complete with slides, rides and wave-pools, or why not try Marineland in Costa d’en Blanes where the sea-lions, dolphins and penguins provide the entertainment. Alternatively, if it’s an adults-only vacation, don’t miss Santa Ponsa’s picturesque harbour or the capital city of Palma. Both famed for being celebrity haunts, if you want a slice of sophistication, this is where it’s at. From designer shopping to flashy restaurants, castles to cathedrals and boats to bazaars, it’s the perfect mix of culture and consumption.
After-hours, you’ll find just as much choice on your Majorca Holidays. Most hotels and apartments offer evening excursions where you can experience a traditional Spanish night out and get wined and dined with Sangria and tapas whilst watching Flamenco dancers and castanet players perform. If you prefer to make your own entertainment, the island is covered with bars, restaurants and clubs, the most famous being BCM in Magaluf. With a different theme each night, it’s a good idea to check the evening’s entertainment beforehand, just in case there’s a foam party on first!
